When the Street Lights Come On
I was sitting having coffee with an old friend of mine the other day when he started reminiscing about “the good old days” because that’s what old guys do! Were they really that good? Memory does tend to play tricks! But it was a time before technology took over the world, and summer days consisted of running through sprinklers, waiting for the ice cream truck to come down the street, swinging so high that the poles came right out of the ground, and having to get home when the street lights came on. At least that’s how I remember those lazy summer days to be? Sail Away
Tomorrow is September 11th, a date that lives in infamy. The day in 2001 that terrorist hijackers crashed an American Airlines flight into the World Trade Centre in New York City. A date immortalized by the Country music singer, Alan Jackson in his song “Where Were You.” The lyrics go like this, “Where were you when the world stopped turnin’ that September day.” Stung
We’ve been hearing a lot of lost luggage stories these days, and in our family, my father-in-law was a victim. He and my mother-in-law went on a repositioning cruise from Europe to Florida. As the song goes, “All their bags were packed and ready to go,” and off they flew from YVR to London to jump on a ship for a 2-week cruise, stopping in a number of European ports before tying up at their final destination across the Atlantic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. |
