Following on the success of last Springs concert pairing of David Gogo with Steve Mariner, Blue Frog Studios is excited to present another exceptional coupling of two of the best guitarist-singers anywhere: wiL and Shaun Verrealt.
William Mimnaugh (stage name wiL) is a Quebec born, Calgary raised, Vancouver Island based singer-songwriter-guitarist known for penning Americana – esque roots rock songs and delivering them live on stage with a dichotomous mixture of delicate beauty and fierce fiery vengeance. Coined by press as the "Best. Acoustic. Guitar. Player. Ever", wiL is first to maintain that is simply not true; but will concede to possessing a very particular style cultivated through years of experience both on and off the road. As such he has earned himself the honour of sharing the stage with musical heavyweights including Colin James, Matthew Good, Matt Andersen, Jann Arden, Ray LaMontagne, Mavis Staples, Burton Cummings and most recently, Bryan Adams.
In 2011, his song ‘Roam’ was chosen to represent Travel Alberta’s global media campaign called ‘Remember to Breathe’. The flagship video went viral upon release (currently 7 million views) exposing his music to a larger audience. Subsequently, the moderate success of the 100% crowd funded, 'El Paseo’ with its eclectic mixture of rock, pop, roots and blues tinged numbers solidified the fact that music was indeed his chosen path.
Shaun Verreault is best known as the singer/guitarist/songwriter for the band Wide Mouth Mason. The platinum-selling blues rockers have toured with AC/DC and played on multiple tours with both the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. WMM have performed at Switzerland's prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival twice, resulting in an invitation for Shaun to sit in with Van Morrison. On that occasion Ray Charles remarked, "That boy can play guitar!" while founder Claude Nobs dubbed them "the find of the festival".
Shaun’s solo performances have taken place in +50 degree heat in Dubai and -50 degree cold at the North Pole, and a great many places and temperatures in between. His hybrid slide-and-bare finger playing mixes fluid and adventurous phrasing with a singer's lyricism. He’s recently developed a style of lap steel playing that utilizes three slides. As far as ‘google’ can surmise, the skill appears to be his own very unique creation.
Don’t miss this very special evening of great music and stories, as wiL & Shaun are joined by spectacular drummer, Keith Gallant.
